As promised yesterday, I will be taking you all to my happy place: the beach. Whenever life gets stressful all I have to do is sit back (that is if I have a moment to sit back) and imagine myself as being at the beach. Nobody around. Just me, some seagulls, the waves, the smell of the sea and a little wind blowing. I don't even have to be doing anything but sitting in the sand and listening to the waves and the birds. THAT is where I am happy and relaxed.
It can be any beach but there is one that started it all. From the time I was just 2 years old until I started school my grandma would take me to Langeoog in the off season. Every year until I started school and then we started going during my school vacation. From wikipedia.com 'Langeoog's beach is 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) long. Langeoog's actual size depends on the level of tide, which rises and falls about 2.5 metres (8 ft 2 in) in 6 hours.' It is a tiny island with no car traffic. To get from A to B you walk or take a bike. Even now after not having been there for over 10 years I know I would know how to get around.
There are so many happy memories I have associated with this tiny little island and I will never be able to thank my Oma enough for all of them. Years later it is still providing me with 'warm fuzzies' and a way to escape reality for a few moments when things go bad. Just like this past weekend when we went to the beach. Nothing can recharge me as much as being at the beach for a few days.
I have a challenge for you today. Find YOUR happy place. I know it might sound corny, but what is your mental escape. It can be anywhere or anything. If you have found it you are lucky. If not, think about it and find your 'happy place'. What is the one place that makes you happy and lets you relax?
